NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS):

The National Service Scheme generally known as NSS is an Indian government-sponsored public service programme conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. The scheme was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS. The ideological orientation of the NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Very appropriately, the motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. An NSS volunteer places ‘community’ before ‘self’.

Objectives of NSS:

The broad objectives of NSS are to:-

1. Understand the community in which they work;
2. Understand themselves in relation to their community;
3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process;
4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility:
5. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;
6. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities;
7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;
9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
10. Practical national integration and social harmony.

CHURACHANDPUR COLLEGE NSS UNITS:

The National Service Scheme has three units in Churachandpur College with the strength of 300 volunteers (i.e. 100 volunteers in each unit) and three Programme Officers. Every year in the beginning of academic session students are invited to join the NSS community and interested students can enroll themselves through the prescribe format which can be obtain from the College NSS Office.
