Dr. Siamkhum Guite
Churachandpur College, an institution of Higher Education and the first of its kind in the district was formally established on the 30th November,
1964 by a group of intellectuals of the district led by S. Pauneikhai Vaiphei and Dr. T.S. Gangte with the motto “Clarior-E-Tenebris” which
stands for ‘bringing out from darkness or darkness to light’. The two intellectual personalities eventually formed the Governing Body of the College
and they became the Chairman and Secretary/Principal respectively.
The newly established College got itself affiliated to the Guwahati University in the same year, i.e., 1964. The College was then converted into a
full-fledged Government College in 1977 under Order No. 1/2276-28. Consequent upon the conversion of the College into a full-fledged Government College,
the Governing Body of the College was abolished and the power and function of the Governing Body was taken over by Department of Higher and Technical Education,
Government of Manipur in 1977. The College, following the establishment of Manipur University in 1981, got itself affiliated to the newly established Manipur University.
Churachandpur College has two main streams of learning, i.e., Arts and Science; and in these two streams, there has been an increasing
trend in enrolment of students over the years. Apart from these two main streams, the College has Community College attached with it offering Advance
Diploma in Computer Application and Advance Diploma Course in Automobile. It also has a Vocational Course in Mass Media and Journalism sponsored by RUSA.
Beside these, the College, in collaboration with Jerusalem Clinic, started B.Voc Course in Medical Laboratory Technology from 2019 and attached
with it, is IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) Study Centre in varieties of Graduate and Post-Graduate Courses.
The College, since recent years has been producing a number of promising students who stood in the Top Ten list of the results of examinations
conducted by the Manipur University. Each year more than 100 students passed in First Division in different subjects. Hundreds of students passing out
from the College successfully completed competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, MPSC, SSC, NDA, Banking recruitment, etc. and many of them are either
retired or still serving as the aluminized high-ranking officers under Central and State Governments; and many of them are now holding top posts
in different public and private banks.
